4POS SC requires Windows XP Pro or later
The client Windows XP or later.

4POS SC is aimed at the outlet that needs a multi terminal point of sale solution. Up to five client programs may be used with it in the same workgroup. It may alternatively just be used as a stand alone point of sale solution.

Advanced easy to use interface

A wide variety of takings and category reports are available. The F12 key pulls up an overview of the most useful information. The program can simply produce daily item sales, restock lists and also export in CSV or XML for further analysis.
Flexible hardware options with touch screen support
It may be coupled with a bar code scanner and is designed, if required, to allow the main operations to be used from a touch screen. The program can be configured to work with most receipt printers and cash drawers. Pole displays are also supported.

Easy functionality
The server contains the database management system with no inventory information held on the clients. The server client design is an advance on the standard file sharing methods and requires far less data be transferred over the network. The client setup just involves the name of the computer with the server application, no other configuration is required.
The client program is essentially a dumb terminal that can be added or removed from computers as required.

Allow staff and customers to check availability. It is included with the download above. The facility may also be used to allow users on the same network to check stock simply using their browser with no web server requirement. More details here

The price includes a single server license and five client licenses.
Barcode printing
The program supports wedge type barcode readers and will print both most commonly used Code 39 and EAN (UPC-A) barcodes on a variety of labels.
Easy data import
The program can import the inventory or customer databases from a standard CSV (comma separated value, from Excel) text file.

Deployment
The client program offers the common point of sale functions and as no local database is maintained requires minimal maintenance. It takes all but a few local settings (printer, till) from the server. The 4POS SC file structure is identical to that of our standard 4POS Retail permitting a straightforward upgrade path.

Compatibility
The product is data identical to the 4POS Retail standard. The existing 4POS Retail standard installation can transfer by just the drag and drop of a few files.
LAN
The product is designed for use on a LAN and uses the robust Microsoft RPC technology. Please note that network hosting the server over a WAN is not a supported topology.
License
The license includes the use of the 4POS SC Server on one computer and the client on up to 5 computers.

What do I need to run it?
The server requires Windows XP Professional / Vista Business / 7 Business / 8 Professional.
The client requires Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 (not dedicated Windows RT tablets).
Do I need to activate the full version after installation?
Yes, the full server version of the program requires activation via a code that is emailed
Network
The programs use standard Windows remote procedure calls (RPCs) to communicate and the client just requires the network name of the server PC. No other configuration is necessary.
The server and client may be run on the same computer for evaluation purposes. The product requires a Microsoft 'Workgroup' network. The shareware versions may be used to check connectivity.
Note that Windows XP service pack 2 was known to affect remote procedure calls (Service pack 3 corrected it). The Windows firewall being disabled may also simplify any connectivity issues. Please also see these RPC troubleshooting notes.
